Tropical Glaciers in Mars

Lets at a glance find out what discoveries and research our astronomers and scientists have come up with this week.

Martian Snow Source Of Tropical Glaciers, Research Team Reports

Glacial deposits are found at the base of the majestic volcanoes and mountains dotting the mid-latitude and tropical regions of Mars. Snow is the source of these glacial deposits. This finding is based on an innovative blend of geological observations and climate modeling created by a team of American and French scientists, the finding appears in Science.

Two New Dusty Planetary Disks May Be Astrophysical Mirrors Of Our Kuiper Belt

22 nearby stars have been surveyed by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope. This has turned up two with bright debris disks that appear to be the equivalent of our own solar system’s Kuiper Belt. Kuiper Belt is a ring of icy rocks outside the orbit of Neptune and the source of short-period comets.

New Horizons rockets to Pluto

Bound for the planet Pluto, New Horizons spacecraft roared into space Thursday afternoon. According to NASA, the spacecraft is the fastest ever launched. The spacecraft lifted off atop a Lockheed Martin Atlas V rocket at 2 p.m. ET from the Cape

Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida to begin a 10-year, 3 billion-mile mission.

Eon of dust storms traced to asteroid smash

It pelted Earth for one-and-a-half million years, more than eight million years ago. It is a cosmic dust shower that has been traced to the break-up of a large asteroid whose remnants still orbit the Sun, according to a new study. The research may shed light on the effect of extraterrestrial events on the Earth’s climate and life!

Stardust Provides A Cash Cow Of Comet Debris

NASA’s Stardust landed on earth with cometary dust grains collected by it from space. Scientists are elated at the quality, number, and size of cometary dust grains collected. It all happened in an ultra-clean room at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, US. The mission members here opened a capsule containing the comet debris on Tuesday.
