Scientists have successfully completed the project on the South Pole Telescope and it began operations on the evening of February 16.
The telescope was focused at Jupiter.
The telescope is a bundle of equipment that can help astronomers learn what the Universe is made up of and how it evolves.
The $19.2 million SPT is funded by National Science Foundation, and it stands 75 feet tall, measures 33 feet across and weighs 280 tons.

The SPT is designed to pierce the mystery of dark energy. Astronomers now know that the Universe is expanding since the Big Bang occurred some 14 billion years ago. This led to the idea that dark energy pushes the universe apart by counteracting gravity.
More research from this telescope will help astronomers determine all the forces that are acting in the Universe and also help them determine the secrets behind the evolution of the universe.
