Russia’s Mission control spokesperson stated that a Russian cargo ship has successfully docked at the International Space Station (ISS) after a three-day orbit flight.
The Russian cargo is carrying more than 2.5 tons of supplies and equipment. According to Valery Lyndin, mission control spokesperson, the ship M-61 docked with the Paris unit at 10.40 pm as planned.
The ship has delivered oxygen water, food and scientific equipment to the station’s crew - Russian cosmonauts Fyodor Yurchikhin and Oleg Kotov, and U.S. astronaut Clayton Anderson. The cargo ship has also brought two spare computers, which was failed in June that gives brief orientation about disabling and oxygen production on the Russian side of the space station.
The ISS will receive six computers as substitute of failed computers, which went out of repair in the middle of June. The computers, which were responsible for the ISS’ orientation, were knocked out by the strong electromagnetic field impacts after the crew of the US shuttle Atlantis deployed new solar panels on the space station’s exterior.
The crew was unplugged and then reconnected the power feed between the U.S. and Russian sections. Then the crew rebooted the computers and fixed the problem. Engineers also changed the software to ensure that the problem was fixed.
