Space rockets are the most fuel-eating engines that have ever been developed by man.
These engines can be compared to a car drinking fuel in first gear all the time.
Now some Georgia Tech researchers have developed a new engine that has five gears and hence it saves precious fuel.
This engine uses 40% less fuel as compared to the currently used engines as they run on solar power while in space and by fine tuning the escape velocity.
The engine uses a novel electric and magnetic field design that helps better control the exhaust particles. Ground control units can exercise this remotely to control the fuel flow into the engines.
