Malfunction: The camera is one of three used to take photos of distant galaxies

The Hubble Space Telescope is aging with its reputed history of producing unparalleled views of distant galaxies and infant stars. With its increasing years of service, one of the main cameras has stopped working.

One of the three cameras in Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) of Hubble has shut down, according to the Space Telescope Science Institute. And this happened on Monday after the power supply voltages exceeded their limits, as it has indicated.

The engineers are still investigating the exact cause of the problem and working on a potential fix. With the two other cameras still operating, the engineers are hopeful that the problem could be fixed from the ground.
