There are various types of explosions in space. Do you know, when huge stars become black holes, supernovae occur? Due to specific supernovae, Gamma ray burst happens. You may also say that when two compact objects collide, such as neuron stars then Gamma ray burst occur. Recently, astronomers have found a new kind of explosions, red luminous nova.

This massive explosion was found in a nearby galaxy in Virgo cluster, named a Messier 85. A flaring up star is being noticed by the astronomers. Although, it is not bright like Supernova, still it is bright as compare to nova. There was no quick flash and was brightening up slowly with a unique red color.

According to the astronomers, it must be “common envelope evolution”, i.e. in the binary system when two stars come together such explosions occurred. It was quite impossible to see the explosion’s afterglow with hubble as it was dim. But it was quite bright in the infrared spectrum to viewed with the Spitzer Space Telescope.
