Andromeda, our giant neighboring galaxy, was involved in a head on collision with the dwarf galaxy, M32, some 210 million years ago, the only witness of the flaming event were dinosaurs that roamed the Earth at that time.
Infrared images from NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope reveal waves or rings of gas and dust that propagate outward as a result of the violent gravitational interaction. Astronomers can figure out what exactly will be the picture after 5 billion to 10 billion years from now when Andromeda will collide with our galaxy. By looking at the images like this one, we can be the witness to the collision event that we definitely won’t be able to see. . Scientists are also able to reveal that Andromeda and Milky Way collision will eventually join to form one large elliptical galaxy.
