NASA has established a requirements baseline for Orion crew exploration vehicle.
This makes the spacecraft one step closer to reality.
The project completed the review stages in March in cooperation with its prime contractor, Lockheed Martin.
The completion of the review stage has made the spacecraft fit for construction. Any flaw in the design of the spacecraft can lead to disaster as it is intended to take humans into Earth orbit, moon and finally the most distance plan is to take it on a manned mission to the red planet.
Skip Hatfield, Orion Project manager at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston has stated that:
This is a significant step in the development of a space transportation system that will expand our horizons to include other worlds.
Similar reviews will also be conducted for ground and mission control systems that will control the space flight operations.
During the formal review of the spacecraft more than 1,700 topics covering all aspects of vehicle performance design and qualification were discussed.
