Following their Space walk, the Russian Cosmonauts accomplished their chores for Wednesday. They installed lengths of cable and protective panels that would shield the International Space Station, ISS, from the Space debris. They accomplished their chores in approximately five hours and thirty-seven minutes. This they completed 15 minutes faster than expected. The two Russian Space Walkers - Fyodor Yurchikhin and Oleg Kotov connected the Ethernet cable alongside the ISS’s “Russian Zarya module”, this would enable a dedicated Project relating to the Local-area network establishment at the “International Space Station.”
This dedicated server will prove beneficial to give commands for the Russian section of the ISS through the American section whenever some system failure or a catastrophe occurs. It was also made public that the two Cosmonauts placed urns containing Russian “bio-risk” experimental organisms, by doing this the space researchers would get an in-depth knowledge of organic behavior in space orbit conditions.
The space walkers completed their assigned chores in time even though the cables they were lodging were pretty hefty and stocky. According to those space walkers, the most hardest part of the assignment was to install a dozen aluminum panels on the Russian section of the ISS which would inturn protect the outer body of the ISS from Space Debris. This, according to the NASA officials, was their second Space walk during the period of eight days.
American astronaut Sunita Williams remained inside the American section of the ISS and monitored the tasks from the control room itself. A mild hitch seemed to be their from the ISS space walkers as the angle at which they were working was directly overlooking the Sun, so there was a bit problem faced by them due to the sunlight falling straight into their eyes. It was opined by the Cosmonauts that - “The sun is not on our side today. It’s kind of hot; Wednesday’s installation of the inch-thick panels followed the attachment of five others last week.”
NASA and RSA researchers (engineers) at the base station on Earth are steadily monitoring the large pieces of Space debris that may pose danger for the International Space Station, ISS. They are constantly maneuvering the co-ordinates of the ISS by a “Radar sensing technology” which they have incorporated for the same.
According to Sir Kirk Shireman, NASA’s deputy program manager for the space station - “The consequence of small particles is not so great, then there are the midrange particles. We worry about those ones.” According to the experimental probes done in February, the Space scientists confirmed that there would be approximately 9% risk factor involved relating to the Space walks.
This risk factor may be reduced considerably if protective coverings and panels are incorporated with high precision over the ISS. The ISS is destined to be completely ready for carrying out Space researches by the year 2010. Vulnerable sections of the ISS are said to be covered and shielded by protective panels, this was accomplished by taking help from the Japanese and the European Space agencies.
On Wednesday, a Space Walker confirmed some damage caused to the Russian section of the ISS due to the floating Space debris or a “Meteorite”. He added that it seemed like a “Bullet Hole”. The scientists earlier mistook the Paint Specks on the outer body of the ISS to be Ice Crystals deposited on the same. Every Space walker seems to be glad working on “The World’s First Ever Manned Outpost in Space” that is the –“International Space Station”. One of the Space Walker commented that - “Everything is so beautiful down there.”
They must be pretty content out there and why not? They ought to be!
