Several asteroids frequently fly by our planet. And the Japanese spacecraft, Hayabusa has captured an unprecedented image of one of such asteroids. The asteroid is 1,640 feet (500 meters) long and is a small, rocky, ‘S-shaped’. It is commonly found in the main asteroid belt’s (virtual solar system) inner regions.
Akira Fujiwara of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) said,
We could say that we have seen real images of the most common type of asteroid in the near-Earth region.
