NASA’s first night shuttle launch since 2002 is waiting for the countdown which is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Monday, targeted for a launch attempt at 9:36 p.m. Thursday night.

The shuttle Discovery’s seven-member crew flew to the Kennedy Space Center Sunday afternoon to prepare for blastoff Thursday on a complex flight to re-wire the international space station.

One of the seven-crew members Williams will stay behind aboard the space station for a six-month stay. Williams is a former Navy diver and helicopter pilot.

The mission will again test new safety procedures and perform crucial repair work on the International Space Station that will provide with some more info for the Hubble repair missions. It is because of these missions to the ISS that we will be able to perform the Hubble repair mission effortlessly.
