
Colombia too has entered the list of nations which have launched their own satellites. Called as Libertad-1 this Colombian satellite was put into space using a Russian-Ukrainian rocket. Regarded as one of the smallest satellite it weighs just a kilogram and has a height and width of ten cm. This satellite will be used for transmission of compressed signals, capturing position images and receiving data with regards to temperature.
The project was headed by the Engineering and Astronomic Observation Faculty of Sergio Arboleda University and was launched by the Russian-Ukrainian Kosmotras enterprise. Satellites from thirteen other countries too traveled with Libertad-1 from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. In time to come the satellite might be used for retransmitting audio signals and transmitting images taken by a built in camera.
