This is rocking news; a recent report reveals that a meteorite from the asteroid belt in between Mars and Jupiter, weighing 335 pound sold for $93,000 at a Bonhams auction of rare space ’sculptures’. This meteorite, which is supposed to be a chunk of iron, is called as Valley of the Sky, discovered in the Campo del Cielo crater in Argentina was bought by a private collector in the US and the bidder bought the meteorite more than the expected price. As per Thomas Lindgren, acting director of the natural-history division for Bonhams:
This is art - not from man, but from outer space. The auction house had expected it to sell for between $40,000 and $50,000.
As per reports meteorites were sold earlier also and they were highly prized because of their beauty and scientific significance. The meteorite that was sold at this auction has proved itself to be the most expensive at $93,000, in comparison to the previously sold meteorites at $11,950 and the later at $12,000.
